So Mamata Banerjee is back in action after the election results . And her first public speech from that Kolkata sit-in demonstration is already making some serious noise.
She has basically pledged to displace Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in the state . Her exact words were that if she survives this political onslaught, she will ensure the BJP does not maintain its hold over West Bengal.
And honestly, this is a huge statement to make right after the May 4 election defeat which ended her 15-year tenure as Chief Minister . Very bold move .
But it seems she is worried about more than just election loss . She directly spoke about BJP's central leadership in New Delhi, alleging they are trying to destabilize the TMC by threatening its elected MPs and MLAs . This is very serious accusation ah .
This was her first public address since the results came out,so it was clearly meant to show she is still in fight mode.
Few things standing out from this whole event:
- Banerjee insists she will work to remove BJP from state power .
- She highlighted the BJP's tactics to weaken TMC's structure.
- The demonstration had limited number of attendees, reflecting current party dynamics.
And this turnout issue is where things get a bit complicated . Reports say she was joined only by a small group of TMC leaders and legislators . Such a low turnout for her first big event after the loss is definitely telling.
On top of political fight, she also brought up a personal battle . She criticized private hospitals for apparently denying admission to her nephew,Abhishek Banerjee, after he was assaulted . She described whole struggle of trying to get him medical care.
So she is not just fighting BJP,but also what she sees as institutional problems . It adds another layer to her whole political narrative rn.
With everything going on,it feels like she is trying to rally her base again . But with a small crowd at her first major rally, you have to wonder what the real mood is on the ground…
