This is honestly disturbing shift because recruitment is no longer being shown like some underground extremist activity,it is being packaged almost like lifestyle content for young people . And that makes whole thing more dangerous in different way .
According to officials,pro-Khalistan factions are now trying to attract youth by moving away from old-style radicalization and showing more glamorous version of their activities . Basically crime,violence and weapons are being made to look exciting on social media.
And this is where problem becomes very serious ah. Posts showing people brandishing firearms,posing with weapons and engaging in violent acts are reportedly increasing across platforms like X,Facebook,and TikTok . For young minds,this kind of content can look powerful even when reality behind it is dangerous.
One particularly viral video features late terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar firing an AK-47 at a training camp . Officials believe such content is being used like rallying point for potential recruits,almost creating image of strength and status .
Few things standing out clearly in this shift:
- Pro-Khalistan elements are showcasing glamour in crime to attract youth .
- Recruitment tactics are moving from radicalization to romanticization of criminal activities.
- Khalistan groups are facing pressure from the ISI to increase operational activities in Punjab .
An Intelligence Bureau official also compared this strategy with earlier recruitment efforts by groups such as Hizbul Mujahideen,which used similar glamour angle to draw in young followers . And tbh,that comparison itself says how calculated this whole approach may be.
Younger individuals are especially vulnerable here because wealth,power,weapons and online attention can look attractive from outside . They may not fully understand what joining such groups actually means,or how quickly this so-called glamorous path can turn into violence,crime and ruined life.
Officials are also seeing this as sign of desperation among Khalistan groups,especially as older generation in Punjab mostly distances itself from movement because it remembers violent history connected with it . But younger generation may not carry same memory,and that gap is being targeted only.
And that is scary part . If dangerous groups can turn crime into aesthetic content and sell it like identity,status and rebellion,how many young people will realise trap before it is too late…
