Kerala government's Revised Budget unveiled on June 20,2026 has created some real hope in Idukki farming circles . And honestly, after so many years of land headache, this kind of announcement will naturally feel like big relief for people there .
Main issue is title deeds and legal blocks which farmers have been facing for long time . Budget says government wants to resolve ongoing land disputes and also move to lift existing stays from Supreme Court and High Court connected to distribution of title deeds established in 1964.
This is not small thing ah,because over 50,000 families in Idukki are affected by these land-related problems . For farmers, land paper is not just one document,it decides whether they can build, invest, borrow,or even feel secure about future .
And tbh,the Cardamom title deeds issue is where many people were waiting for clear action . Government has now said it will review order prohibiting construction on lands with Cardamom title deeds, and existing constructions may be regularized .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Budget includes provisions to resolve land-related disputes and lift legal barriers.
- Farmers’ groups have welcomed government intervention aimed at protecting their interests.
- Resolving land issues could encourage investments in agriculture and tourism.
Rasak Chooravelil ,chairman of the Idukki Land Freedom Movement, has praised Chief Minister's announcements as historic . From farmers' side, this is being seen not only as immediate relief but also as chance for more people to invest in Idukki .
Stany Pothen , chairman of the Cardamom Planters’ Federation, also said government has addressed all their demands, especially on construction on Cardamom lands . That statement itself shows how seriously farming groups were watching this budget .
But at same time, announcement is one thing and actual ground-level change is another . Farmers have already waited for years,so now real question is how fast these legal stays are lifted and how quickly title deeds actually reach families .
If this moves properly,Idukki could see new confidence in agriculture and tourism only . But if files again get stuck between courts, departments and rules, then farmers may be left waiting with same old question… when will land finally feel like their own?
