Karnataka government is now planning something quite interesting for civil service aspirants from state, especially those who go all way to New Delhi for IAS and IPS preparation . And honestly, for many students, this kind of support is not small thing ah .
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that government is set to construct dedicated accommodation facility in New Delhi with estimated budget of ₹80 crore . Basic idea is simple: students preparing for civil services should get proper housing and better environment instead of struggling alone in costly city.
And one big part of this plan is 50% reservation for SC/ST candidates in available seats . That makes scheme more than just hostel project, because access matters a lot when coaching, stay, food and survival in New Delhi can become huge pressure together.
During cabinet meeting on June 20,2026,Shivakumar said aspirants should have space where they can interact, exchange ideas and prepare together . This actually makes sense, because civil service prep can become very lonely when students are away from home for long time.
Few things clearly coming out from cabinet decisions:
- 50% reservation for SC/ST candidates in New Delhi accommodation facility .
- Office of Resident Commissioner in New Delhi will be strengthened with more senior officers .
- ₹100 crore for Yadgiri Institute of Medical Sciences and ₹30 crore for Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute approved.
But this is not just about one building only . Karnataka government also wants to strengthen office of Resident Commissioner in New Delhi so state can get better access to central schemes and funds . More senior officers are expected to be posted there, and retired IAS and IPS officials may also be engaged for support .
Shivakumar has also talked about reorganizing that office by looking at states like Gujarat,Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu . Those states have apparently used Resident Commissioner's office in strong way to secure resources, and Karnataka now wants to improve its own presence in central government circles.
At same time, cabinet cleared healthcare-related funding too . ₹100 crore has been approved for Yadgiri Institute of Medical Sciences to set up super-speciality hospital, and ₹30 crore for Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute . So education support and medical infrastructure are both being pushed in same round of decisions .
And tbh, plan sounds good on paper, but real test will be execution . Will students actually get clean, safe, affordable accommodation in New Delhi? Will office strengthening really bring more central funds for Karnataka? That part is where questions still stay open…
