Kalyan Banerjee,the Chief Whip of the Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha,has openly rejected allegations made by fellow party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.
This whole issue started after Ghosh Dastidar accused Banerjee of "repeatedly verbally abusing" her during parliamentary sessions . She also alleged disrespect towards other Trinamool MPs,which is serious claim inside same party only.
But Banerjee is not accepting any of it . In press conference,he said he plans to formally write to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla,asking for necessary sanction from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute Ghosh Dastidar in connection with ongoing Narada sting operation case.
And honestly,this is where matter becomes more than just one personal argument . Because once Narada case comes into picture,party fight suddenly starts looking much bigger and more messy .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Kalyan Banerjee has publicly refuted allegations of verbal abuse made by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.
- He said,"If I have done something which is uncalled for and unethical,then the rule is to immediately inform the Speaker."
- He also questioned her Lok Sabha attendance,saying,"Her attendance is so poor in the House; when did I make such remarks?"
Banerjee’s main point seems simple: if something happened inside Parliament,why was complaint not made immediately to Speaker . He is basically asking why this is coming out now,and whether there is political motive behind it.
He also made one sharp personal comment which will probably create more noise . Banerjee said,"I have studied in West Bengal,she has studied in London, that is why she considers me uneducated." That line itself shows how bitter this exchange has become.
At same time,Narada sting operation case is already sensitive for Trinamool Congress . It had exposed several Trinamool MPs allegedly accepting bribes,and investigations are still hanging around party’s image . So this new public rift is not helping them at all.
And tbh,when leaders from same party start attacking each other like this in open press conferences,it becomes difficult to call it just misunderstanding . There is clearly some deeper tension inside.
With elections coming ahead,questions around unity and discipline will only get louder now . Whether this fight stays personal or turns into bigger trouble for Trinamool Congress… that part is still hanging in air…
