International Yoga Day on June 21 had quite visible energy in Shivamogga and Hassan in Karnataka this time . And honestly,it feels nice when such events are not just photo-op type but actually bring students, leaders and local people together around health.
In Shivamogga,district-level celebration happened at Nehru Indoor Stadium . It was organized by Ministry of AYUSH along with local government bodies, and inauguration saw MLA S.N. Channabasappa speaking about yoga as India’s invaluable gift to world.
And that point is not wrong ah. Yoga has really gone far beyond India now,and MLC D.S. Arun also mentioned that it is practised in over 190 countries . He spoke about balance between body, mind and soul, which may sound familiar but still matters in daily stress life .
One interesting announcement came from Channabasappa too . He said there are plans to host national-level yoga competition in Shivamogga ahead of next year’s event. That could actually push more young people to take yoga seriously, not just as one-day activity .
Few things clearly stood out from celebrations:
- Health benefits of yoga were stressed for both physical and mental health.
- National-level yoga competition is planned in Shivamogga before next year’s event.
- Students from local colleges participated with performances, showing yoga as cultural activity too.
But Hassan also had its own strong turnout at District Sports Stadium . MP Shreyas M. Patel spoke about role of yoga in good health and encouraged people to give at least an hour each day to yoga and meditation. Tbh,one hour daily sounds simple, but for many people that is hardest part only.
MLA Swaroop Prakash also said health matters more than wealth, which is basic line but still hits when you see how lifestyle diseases are increasing everywhere . Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari spoke about yoga helping in healthy aging and preventing lifestyle diseases.
And with government officials, local leaders and students all taking part, this did feel like message was going beyond stage speeches . Question is whether people will continue after June 21 also,or whether yoga again becomes something remembered only on special days…
