This Karimnagar bus fire incident is honestly scary to even imagine,because 39 passengers and crew were inside TGSRTC electric bus and things could have gone very wrong within minutes . On June 21,2026 ,bus was going towards Hyderabad when suddenly smoke started coming from HV battery compartment.
And luckily,driver B. Prashanth noticed it in time . Not after flames came out,not after panic started,but when alarming fumes were first seen . That one moment of alertness seems to have saved everyone onboard.
The bus was travelling on Rajiv Rahadari (State Highway-1) when Prashanth stopped vehicle immediately and alerted passengers to get down . Within moments,flames erupted . Just think about timing here,if evacuation had been delayed even little bit,situation may have turned tragic.
He even tried using two fire extinguishers kept onboard,but fire spread too fast and bus was almost fully consumed . By time fire department reached,the bus was nearly gutted already . Electric vehicle fire is not small thing ah,especially when battery compartment is involved.
Few things standing out clearly in this incident:
- 39 passengers and crew escaped safely because B. Prashanth acted quickly.
- Smoke was first noticed from HV battery compartment while bus was on Rajiv Rahadari (State Highway-1).
- Local police have launched investigation into cause of fire.
And this is where larger question starts coming in . Electric buses are becoming common in public transport,but when one catches fire like this,people will obviously ask about safety checks,battery monitoring and emergency systems .
Officials from TGSRTC,including R. Venkanna ,P. Solomon ,and B. Raju ,visited scene later and thanked Prashanth for his quick response . They also announced cash reward of ₹5,000 for him,which is fair because he did not freeze in that moment.
But at same time,reward is one part only . Main thing now is finding out why fire started in first place . Was it battery issue,maintenance problem,technical failure,or something else? Investigators are still looking into it.
And honestly,passengers were lucky this time because driver was alert and acted fast . But public transport safety cannot depend only on luck and one person’s presence of mind every single time…
