Because when schools reopen, parents are not just thinking about books and uniforms, they are also worrying whether child is actually safe inside campus.
Police have now started checking school safety across Munambam subdivision using 12-point questionnaire . It looks at infrastructure integrity, emotional well-being and even measures against cyber threats, which is not small thing ah considering how much students are online these days.
Questionnaire has already been given to approximately 120 schools out of a total of 140 in area . And it is not just some basic tick-box exercise,it asks about compound walls, gates, police clearance certificates for school vehicle drivers and fitness of school vehicles too .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Questionnaire has reached approximately 120 schools out of a total of 140 in Munambam subdivision.
- It checks compound walls, gates, police clearance certificates for school vehicle drivers and fitness of school vehicles .
- Any school scoring below eight on safety scale will show compromised safety and face immediate action.
And tbh,the emotional safety part is also very needed . Police are asking whether schools have complaint boxes and whether students actually know how to use them properly . Because having box in corner is one thing, but children feeling safe enough to complain is different matter only.
They are also asking schools about steps to stop drug and tobacco sales on premises . Along with that, there is question of how mobile phones are managed during school hours . Both are sensitive issues, but ignoring them will not make them disappear .
During workshop held on June 20,2026,police officials gave questionnaire to teachers who were made school safety officers . K.S . Sudarshan ,the District Police Chief, said this is follow-up to earlier safety awareness measures taken before reopening of schools .
Fire and Rescue Services from North Paravur have also joined this effort by doing practical first aid sessions for injuries, including falls and snakebites . That part feels genuinely useful, because in real emergency, first few minutes can decide so much.
But now real question is what happens after forms are collected . Schools with deficiencies are supposed to get special attention quickly, but parents will naturally wonder whether this will become regular monitoring or just one reopening-season drive…
