Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has now gone after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),saying common citizen is being ignored while prices keep rising.
On June 20, 2026 ,Kharge posted on X and blamed government’s handling of economy for household savings getting drained so fast . His words were quite sharp: "Rapidly depleting savings due to high inflation. Unaffordability, betrayal of aspirations, inequality, fall in global credibility, youth anger galore!"
And tbh, that line about depleting savings will hit many families because this is exactly what people are feeling in monthly budgets . Salary comes, some bills go,groceries go,medical expense comes, and suddenly savings look almost gone only .
Kharge pointed to retail inflation reaching a 16-month high, and said families are struggling to afford basic necessities . Food prices are big part of this pain, especially essentials like tomatoes, with food inflation currently at 4.78% .
Few numbers standing out clearly here:
- Retail inflation at 16-month high — severely impacting household budgets and savings.
- Food inflation at 4.78% — essential items becoming increasingly unaffordable.
- Medical inflation above 15% — adding to the economic strain on families.
But medical inflation crossing 15% is honestly not small thing ah . One hospital visit can disturb whole month’s planning for middle-class family, and for poorer families,it can become debt trap very quickly.
Kharge also accused BJP of being busy with political moves and "shopping" for alliances instead of focusing on economic pressure people are facing . He said,"Households perish under the weight of Modi Govt's mismanagement of the economy!"
He also brought up youth unemployment and dwindling foreign investment, linking both with larger anger around economy . Congress is clearly trying to push this issue hard in upcoming political discourse, because frustration over prices is something almost every household understands without any speech needed.
And at same time, question is simple but uncomfortable: if families are cutting expenses, emptying savings and still feeling squeezed, how long can politics keep moving around alliances while kitchen budgets keep breaking…
