Bhopal Metro speed update is honestly little funny and little disappointing at same time . System may be designed to touch up to 90 km/h,but in actual daily running,it will go maximum only 45 km/h.
And reason is not some technical failure or anything dramatic . Main issue is station spacing . Metro stations are approximately 1 km apart,so train barely gets time to speed up before it has to slow down again for next stop .
S Krishna Chaitanya,Managing Director of Metro Project,explained this in very direct way,saying,"Nowhere does a Metro run at its design speed. average speed would be 40 to 45 km per hour." And fair enough,this happens in metro systems worldwide,but still for passengers hearing 90 km/h and then getting 45 km/h feels like expectation vs reality moment.
Current Bhopal Metro is running between AIIMS Metro Station and Subhash Nagar Metro Station . As of now,there are total of five trips in one direction and four in opposite direction. Service hours are also limited from 11 AM to 5:50 PM daily,which honestly may not suit many office-goers or regular commuters .
Few things clearly matter here:
- Timetable revisions underway — Metro management is considering changes based on public feedback .
- Service hours limited — Current operations run from 11 AM to 5:50 PM daily.
- Public demand influences operations — Peak hours and footfall will drive timetable adjustments.
And this is where real issue starts . Speed is one part,but timing is bigger part for normal public. If Metro is not available during peak travel hours,then many people will still choose autos,buses or private vehicles only.
Management is now looking at timetable changes based on public feedback and footfall . That is good step,because metro cannot work properly if schedule feels disconnected from actual city routine.
But at same time,people will ask simple question ah — if city is expanding and traffic is already becoming problem,then why are services still so limited? From 11 AM to 5:50 PM feels more like trial comfort zone than full commuter-friendly system.
Bhopal Metro can still become very useful for city,but speed limitation and restricted timings may affect first impression badly . Maybe once more passengers start using it,operations will adjust better… or maybe public will keep waiting for Metro to match real daily needs…
