So some big news coming out for Indian wrestling scene . Looks like the new head coach,Emzarios Bentinidis,is not wasting any time and has already laid out huge masterplan for the 2026 Asian Games .
And this is not just some talk ah . The coach, who people call Shako, was seen at SAI Centre in Lucknow over the weekend, carefully watching the men's freestyle and Greco-Roman selections . He's stressing about a professional and uniform system for everyone .
His main point seems to be that you can't treat every athlete same way . He believes understanding individual needs is the only way to get success at that level .
And tbh, this is refreshing change . For too long,it felt like a one-size-fits-all approach was being used which doesn't work for elite sports .
The coach even said it himself, “Every wrestler is different and requires a different approach,” while talking about his new strategy . This focus on custom plans could be a game-changer.
Few key things from this new plan:
- Each athlete gets custom roadmap to target their specific technical or physical gaps .
- The elite squad is now finalized, with stars like Aman Sehrawat and Antim Panghal locking their spots.
- entire training cycle is specifically timed for the Aichi-Nagoya games .
And the recent trials showed why these wrestlers are at top . Olympic medalist Aman Sehrawat just completely dominated the 57kg category with an 11-1 victory . Sujeet Kalkal also secured his place in 65kg bracket after a smart, tactical 2-0 win.
For the women's team,Antim Panghal will be leading the charge in 53kg division . final roster also has big names like Deepak Punia and Sunil Kumar, who everyone expects to be major contenders for gold in Japan .
This whole thing feels very structured, very professional . A proper long-term plan instead of last-minute preparations .
But a plan on paper is one thing . real test will be how it's executed over next two years . Having a roadmap is great, but the journey to Japan is long and anything can happen…
