The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken proactive measures to address a significant error in its evaluation process by sharing the correct answer sheet with Vedant Shrivastava, a Class 12 student. This rectification followed a viral incident where Vedant received another candidate’s Physics answer sheet instead of his own, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the CBSE's new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. The mix-up occurred after Vedant applied for a photocopy of his answer sheet on May 19, which led to public outrage on social media.
In a post shared on X, Vedant expressed his shock, stating, "I am shattered because the Physics answer sheet uploaded by CBSE is not mine." This revelation garnered over 3.5 million views and ignited a nationwide debate regarding the reliability of the CBSE’s digital evaluation methods. Following the incident, CBSE acknowledged the mistake and assigned a dedicated team to investigate the matter, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and fairness in the evaluation process.
- Correct answer sheet provided — CBSE rectified the earlier mistake and shared Vedant's actual sheet.
- Public outcry over evaluation process — sparked widespread debate on digital assessment reliability.
- CBSE promises re-evaluation — assured Vedant's marks will be updated after a thorough review.
On May 25, 2026, CBSE confirmed via email to Vedant that his correct answer sheet had been sent and that his results would be revised accordingly. The Board reached out to his family, reassuring them that the issue would be rectified. As the OSM system was introduced this year to digitize the evaluation process, it has faced scrutiny over numerous complaints, including discrepancies in marks and technical glitches.
This incident has raised critical questions about the reliability and transparency of CBSE's evaluation system. Complaints regarding blurred scanned copies, fluctuating fees for answer sheet photocopies, and portal crashes during re-evaluation requests have surfaced, further complicating the situation. The controversy surrounding Vedant's case not only highlights the challenges faced by students but also emphasizes the need for a robust and reliable assessment system. The CBSE has yet to release an official public statement addressing the specific allegations, but the commitment to ensure fair evaluation remains a priority.
