So whole CBSE marking controversy has finally led to some major action . And honestly,it was expected given the amount of noise from students and parents.
In a huge administrative shakeup, the Central Government has transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta . This is not small thing ah,transferring both top people at same time .
And this whole drama is happening because of that On-Screen Marking (OSM) system introduced for Class 12 board exams this year . Basically where teachers check scanned copies of answer sheets on computer instead of physical papers .
But problem started when many students and parents started complaining about irregularities in the marking process . The discontent was just growing and growing.
And this is where situation gets really serious . inquiry committee has been formed to check the procurement of these OSM services . There are questions that maybe guidelines were relaxed just to help certain vendors get contract .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Inquiry panel established — tasked with investigating procurement practices related to OSM .
- CBSE's re-evaluation portal — opened for students to address assessment issues.
- Government's crackdown on malpractices — significant actions taken amid growing backlash.
To control some of damage,CBSE has started a re-evaluation portal from June 2 . Students can use it to point out issues in their scanned answer sheets. But this portal will be open only until June 6 .
The whole point of OSM was to modernize things, make it faster . But now it's just become a source of mistrust and has completely overshadowed any benefits it might have had.
So government is taking action, which is good . They want to restore faith in examination system .
But transferring officials is one thing . What about the students who are stuck in this mess? Their results, their futures, their college admissions… everything feels so uncertain right now…
