This latest attack is basically around him being pushed by some Congress leaders as possible face for INDIA bloc leadership,and BJP clearly wants to turn that into joke before opposition can even settle anything.
BJP chief spokesperson Navnath Ban told IANS,"The leadership of the INDIA Bloc should be given to Rahul Gandhi because, as you know, he has lost 99 per cent of the elections so far. Next time, he will complete a 'century' of defeats" . That is not soft criticism at all,that is full political trolling from front foot .
And honestly,this is where whole thing becomes more than just one statement . BJP is not only attacking Rahul Gandhi,but also trying to create doubt inside INDIA bloc itself,especially when parties like Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress are reportedly not fully comfortable with idea of him leading alliance.
Few things standing out clearly in this political fight:
- BJP is using Rahul Gandhi's past electoral record to question his leadership.
- Navnath Ban called Gandhi a 'traitor' over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- INDIA bloc leadership issue still looks unsettled among opposition parties.
Ban also went after Gandhi's language against PM Modi and said such rhetoric pushes voters away . He further asserted,"The people of the country will show who the real traitor is" . This is very direct attempt to frame whole debate around nationalism and voter emotion,not just election math.
But opposition side is not accepting BJP's line quietly . Udayveer Singh of Samajwadi Party downplayed BJP's statements and suggested INDIA bloc leadership matter will be decided in internal meetings only . Basically,message is BJP can say whatever it wants,but alliance will sort its own issue .
Congress leader Hussain Dalwai also defended Rahul Gandhi,saying his public engagements and outreach efforts have helped shape his image as leader . And tbh,Congress clearly wants to show that Rahul Gandhi is no longer same easy target BJP keeps projecting.
Still,problem for opposition is visible . If Congress wants Gandhi as bigger face,but other INDIA bloc parties hesitate,then BJP gets ready-made opening to mock unity and leadership confusion .
And this is how Indian politics looks rn before next election cycle even properly begins . One side calling it weakness,other side calling it internal democracy,but actual question is still hanging there… who will finally lead INDIA bloc when pressure really starts building…
