This Sarkar Express case is honestly scary because it sounds less like one random theft and more like planned railway attack . Pulling alarm chain, creating panic, then targeting women passengers for gold chains… not small thing ah.
Government Railway Police (GRP) have now caught Sonu, said to be key figure from Bawaria gang . Reports say arrest took place on June 21,2026,at Bapatla railway station, while arrest details also mention Sonu was arrested around 1 p.m. on June 20,2026 . That date mismatch itself is confusing, but main point is police finally got one accused in custody.
Incident happened on night of June 14-15 on Chengalpattu-Kakinada Port Sarkar Express . Police say six members of Bawaria gang were travelling in train and executed plan near Nagaraju Canal by pulling alarm chain and forcing train to halt .
And after train stopped, whole situation reportedly turned violent very fast . Gang allegedly snatched gold chains from two women passengers, and when train escort personnel and passengers confronted them, they allegedly attacked with stones and knives .
That is where things became even more dangerous.
Escort personnel reportedly opened fire in self-defense,and ten rounds were discharged from Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) . Imagine being passenger inside train at night and suddenly alarm chain is pulled, people are attacked, and firing starts… genuinely terrifying .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Sonu confessed to multiple chain-snatching incidents after being arrested around 1 p.m. on June 20,2026 .
- Bawaria gang is believed to be involved in at least 12 similar crimes in Guntur Railway Police Sub-Division over last two years.
- Five other gang members are still at large, and special teams have been sent to Rajasthan to locate them.
During interrogation,Sonu reportedly admitted that Bawaria gang carried out many alarm chain pullings and signal tampering incidents at different places, including Nadikudi and New Piduguralla . This makes case bigger than just one chain-snatching incident only.
GRP officials under supervision of DIG B. Satya Yesu Babu are now trying to trace remaining members, who are believed to be hiding in Rajasthan and Haryana . And tbh,if gang has been linked to at least 12 similar crimes, people will obviously ask how they kept operating for so long on railway routes.
For passengers, this whole thing raises uncomfortable question about train safety at night . Because once train is forcibly stopped near isolated stretch, what protection does ordinary traveller really have in that moment…
