Another big diplomatic meeting happened in New Delhi . This time it was between our Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and South African Deputy President Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile. Looks like some serious talks are happening .
The meeting was on June 2,2026,at Uprashtrapati Bhavan and was all about making the India-South Africa relationship stronger . They apparently discussed everything from trade and investment to defence cooperation and even skills development .
And they also talked a lot about Global South,which is a term we are hearing more and more these days rn. It's about both countries working together on that front.
During the discussion,Mashatile made good point about how India and South Africa need to use their common values to push for peace and equality in global forums . Not a small thing ah.
He even posted on social media,saying "Together,our nations must continue to leverage on shared values to promote peace,equality,and fairness in global institutions."
Few key things from their talks:
- Focus on trade and investment — Both leaders discussed enhancing economic ties through mutual investments and trade agreements .
- Defence cooperation emphasized — The discussions included strategies to bolster defence collaboration between the two nations .
- Commitment to Global South — They exchanged views on advancing priorities of the Global South in multilateral forums .
And before meeting VP,Mashatile also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar earlier that same day . They talked about strengthening cooperation in many sectors,especially trade and infrastructure .
And honestly,this is where things get interesting. Mashatile also said both countries should expand their collaboration beyond just traditional areas.
This whole partnership goes way back of course,with shared history and cultural ties . Plus that whole commitment to non-alignment principles.
But with all these high-level meetings and big statements,you have to wonder… what will the actual results look like on ground for regular people in both countries…
