Not small thing ah,especially when response is coming within just 24 hours of outbreak alerts.
US government announced on Thursday that it is setting up 50-bed quarantine facility in Kenya, which is expected to become operational imminently . Main idea is to prepare for American citizens who may have been exposed to latest glendo Gio variant of Ebola virus.
But location also stands out here . Facility is being built at Wajir Air Base, and according to senior administration official,it will be used to monitor people who are at risk in controlled environment.
And honestly, this kind of fast action shows how seriously Ebola is still treated globally . One outbreak alert and immediately quarantine planning, trained responders, coordination with another country… everything starts moving.
Few things standing out clearly in this response:
- US has mobilized $112 million after Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo.
- 50-bed quarantine facility is being established in Kenya at Wajir Air Base .
- Over 30 Commission Corps officers have received specialized training in Ebola patient care.
This whole operation is being divided into two phases . First phase is about setting up quarantine facility, while second phase will bring in biocontainment and isolation units for people who may develop symptoms or test positive for virus.
And tbh,the personnel part matters a lot here . Officials said US is sending experienced people, including over 30 Commission Corps officers trained for Ebola cases. Many of them were also part of US response to Ebola outbreaks in West Africa in 2014-15,so this is not first time for them.
But at same time, putting facility in Kenya while outbreak is in Democratic Republic of Congo also raises many questions in normal people's mind . It may be about quicker access, logistics and monitoring American citizens, but still,it shows how complicated international outbreak response becomes .
US administration is clearly trying to move before situation gets worse . Rapid mobilization, resource allocation, medical access if symptoms appear… all of it sounds planned, but Ebola outbreaks have way of testing every plan in real time only.
And now everyone is watching how this setup works once facility becomes operational, because one alert has already pushed multiple countries into action… what happens if cases start rising?
