Raksha Khadse’s visit to NorthEast United FC may look like simple sports meeting from outside, but honestly, this kind of visit matters because North East football talent is not small thing ah . So when Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports actually sits with club management and young footballers,it naturally gets attention.
And this was not just photo-op type visit only. Raksha Khadse met people at NorthEast United FC and discussed how club is finding young players, training them and trying to give them proper pathway in football.
She was welcomed by Mandar Tamhane, the Chief Executive Officer of NorthEast United FC,and Naushad Moosa, the technical director . Club leadership also explained their youth development philosophy, especially how they scout young talent and then give structured opportunities for growth.
And tbh, this is where story feels more meaningful. Because everyone keeps saying India has football talent, but if scouting, coaching and opportunities are not proper, then talent just disappears somewhere between school ground and senior level.
Few things standing out clearly from this visit:
- Club is focusing on grassroots talent identification through scouting young footballers.
- Raksha Khadse spoke about sustained investment in coaching and infrastructure.
- NorthEast United FC is trying to build long-term pathway for young players.
Khadse also learned about club’s talent scouting initiatives, where coaches travel across India to find promising young players . That sounds basic, but in Indian football context,it is actually big because many good players never get seen by right people at right time.
During visit, she said,“The future of Indian football depends on our ability to identify talent early, provide quality coaching and create structured opportunities for progression,” . And honestly, that line sums up whole problem only.
And yes,North East being discussed in this way is also important. Region has produced exceptional football talent for years, but support systems, facilities and proper progression routes still need much more attention .
As part of her engagements in North East,Khadse also reviewed athlete development initiatives and youth-focused programs . Government’s push for grassroots sports sounds good, but real test is always same — whether young athletes actually get coaching, fields, mentors and chances consistently .
Because visits happen, statements happen, clubs also do their part… but question is whether this energy will stay when cameras are gone and young players are back on training ground…
