Not every day you hear that municipal body is almost heading toward dissolution because councillors resigned in such large numbers .
In West Bengal,CMC is now on verge of dissolution after 30 out of 31 TMC councilors, including Mayor Ram Chakraborty, tendered their resignations . That number itself is not small ah,especially when it comes from ruling party side inside corporation.
Resignations reportedly began on Friday and now whole issue has become much bigger than internal party drama . Because municipal corporation is not just politics,it is drains, roads, water, garbage, civic services… daily life stuff only.
And main tension seems connected to financial control also . State’s municipal affairs and urban development department had imposed stricter financial audits, and Chakraborty sounded worried about corporation losing financial freedom.
He said,“We are concerned that our ability to provide civic amenities will be adversely impacted.” And honestly, this line is where residents will also start feeling uneasy, because if civic amenities get hit, political fight becomes public problem very fast.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- 30 out of 31 TMC councilors,including Mayor Ram Chakraborty,resigned .
- CMC dissolution could affect basic civic services for residents.
- TMC's Indranil Sen was defeated by BJP's Deepanjan Kumar Guha in recent assembly elections.
There is political angle too. In recent assembly elections,TMC's Indranil Sen was defeated by BJP's Deepanjan Kumar Guha, and after that Sen's withdrawal from politics reportedly left leadership vacuum . That kind of gap can shake local body badly, especially when party workers and councillors are already under pressure.
But at same time, residents are stuck watching all this from outside . For them, question is simple: who will make sure everyday services do not suffer while leaders fight over control, finance and future?
And tbh, this whole thing feels like it is still hanging in middle . CMC may be heading for dissolution, party equations are unstable, and people are waiting to know what happens to basic governance now…
