Online fraud has become so common that almost every family has some story of fake call, phishing link or OTP fraud happening around them .
Department has issued urgent advisory after rise in cyber-related complaints, asking citizens to stay alert and protect their personal and financial information . And this is not small thing ah,because scammers are not using simple tricks anymore .
They are calling people like bank staff, government officials or some trusted person and then slowly pushing them to share details . Sometimes it is suspicious link, sometimes unknown online request, and sometimes direct demand for one-time passwords (OTPs).
And tbh, this is where many people get trapped.
Officials have clearly warned people not to click suspicious links and not to share OTPs with unknown callers . They also asked citizens to verify unfamiliar phone numbers and online requests before replying or taking any action.
Few things standing out clearly in advisory:
- Citizens must be cautious of phishing attempts and scams
- Enable two-step verification on messaging apps like WhatsApp
- Report cyber fraud incidents quickly through local police,National Cyber Crime Portal or helpline number 1930
WhatsApp security part also matters a lot . J&K Cyber Crime Department has urged users to activate two-step verification because account takeover and impersonation attempts are becoming very normal now . One compromised account can mislead many contacts within minutes .
And if money is involved, delay can make things worse only . That is why officials are asking people to report incidents immediately, especially financial fraud cases,so fraudulent transactions can maybe be blocked in time .
But real question is whether people will actually slow down before clicking link or sharing OTP when someone creates panic on call . Because scammers know fear works… and that is exactly what makes this whole thing worrying…
