One very sad incident has come from Wani,Maharashtra and honestly,it is difficult to read because this was not some road fight or crime case . A 27-year-old man lost his life while simply doing his work.
Rushikesh Kailas Matsagar,a wedding mandap contractor, died due to electrocution on June 20 . He was dismantling wedding mandap erected in front of Nandlal Gavit's house, near Krupa Hospital.
And while doing that work, one iron pipe in his hand reportedly touched overhead power line . That one contact gave him severe electric shock and he collapsed immediately there only.
Local residents did not waste time . They rushed to help Rushikesh, even gave CPR and then shifted him to a private hospital . But despite treatment,he succumbed to his injuries .
Later, his body was taken to Wani Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination . That process was completed late same night, after which family was allowed to take his remains.
Few things making this case even more painful:
- Rushikesh Kailas Matsagar was sole breadwinner after his father's death during COVID-19 pandemic.
- Locals are now demanding stricter regulations on power line maintenance and safer height of wires.
- Wani Police are registering accidental death case and investigating exact circumstances.
And honestly, this is where anger also comes in . Workers who put up and remove mandaps are already dealing with height, metal pipes, wires, weather and time pressure . One loose or low overhead line can turn normal work into death trap.
People in area are now asking electricity department to maintain power lines properly and keep them at safe height . Not small thing ah,because these workers stand right under such wires almost every other function season.
But for Rushikesh's family, this is not just “safety issue” on paper . Their earning member is gone, and that too in sudden way while doing daily job . One wedding mandap came down, but one whole family's support also collapsed with it…
And question is,how many such accidents will it take before someone actually fixes these overhead lines before next worker goes near them…
