One really tragic incident has come out from Mankhurd area of Mumbai where a BEST bus crashed into flyover barricade on July 20,2026 and a 62-year-old pedestrian lost their life . And whole thing happened in morning hours when people were just going about their daily routine.
According to reports, accident took place around 8:30 AM on Mankhurd flyover . Bus identified as No. 8092 was operated by M/s Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt Ltd and was running on its designated route between Kurla East and Airoli . Witnesses say bus suddenly lost control and crashed into barricade, causing immediate chaos and panic among passengers.
One of the injured,Sumangal Maity,a 42-year-old labourer, suffered shoulder injury during the crash . His account of whole situation is honestly heartbreaking . He reportedly said he was not expecting to end up in hospital after finishing his night shift . Just a man going home after long night of work…
And this is where situation becomes really uncomfortable to think about.
Emergency services were called quickly and injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment . Total ten people got injured in this incident, including the bus driver himself . Meanwhile that 62-year-old pedestrian did not survive, which is raising serious concerns about pedestrian safety in this area.
Few key things standing out from this incident:
- Ten people were injured including bus driver and passengers, and one 62-year-old pedestrian died .
- Bus No. 8092 was operated by M/s Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt Ltd on Kurla East to Airoli route.
- Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi personally visited the injured, showing some level of official attention toward victims.
Local authorities have started investigation right now with preliminary reports pointing toward possible mechanical failure or driver error . Families of victims are already demanding accountability from the transport company . Safety advocates are also calling for stricter regulations on public transport operations.
Mankhurd area is already known for traffic issues and this incident is only adding more pressure on local administration to address road safety problems seriously . Infrastructure on these flyovers, quality of barriers, bus maintenance schedules… all of it is now under question .
And honestly, one thing that keeps sitting uncomfortably is the pedestrian angle here . Person was just walking, not even inside the bus,and still became a victim . That is not small thing at all.
Community in the area is reportedly shaken and public trust in Mumbai's transport systems is taking another hit with this accident . Questions around who exactly is responsible, the transport company, the driver,or road infrastructure itself, are still very much open right now .
Families are seeking justice but investigation is still continuing and nobody really knows yet what exactly caused bus to lose control on that morning . Whether accountability actually follows or this becomes another case that slowly fades from headlines…that part remains very uncertain
