The Mumbai Traffic Police have rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan in Dadar ahead of the highly anticipated Dussehra Melava organized by Shiv Sena (UBT) at Shivaji Park on October 20, 2026. With the event expected to draw thousands from across Maharashtra, traffic restrictions will be in place from 8 AM to 11:55 PM. This proactive measure aims to minimize congestion and facilitate smooth movement in one of the city's busiest areas.
According to Dr. Dipali Dhate, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters and Central), Traffic, Mumbai, the advisory issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, emphasizes the importance of planning travel in advance. As many attendees will be arriving by buses, cars, and other vehicles, heavy traffic is anticipated on major routes, including the Western and Eastern Express Highways, as well as roads connecting Dadar, Mahim, and Prabhadevi.
- No-Parking Zones Established — Parking will be restricted on eight key roads in Dadar to ensure emergency services can access the area.
- Road Closures Announced — Specific roads leading to Shivaji Park will have no-entry restrictions, necessitating alternative routes.
- Designated Parking Areas — Separate parking facilities have been arranged for vehicles arriving from various parts of Mumbai.
To maintain traffic flow and support emergency services, parking will be prohibited on eight designated roads in Dadar. These include segments of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Road, Keluskar Road, and M.B. Raut Road, among others. The no-parking zones are strategically located to ensure that roads remain clear and accessible during the event. This initiative is crucial for preventing gridlock and facilitating the movement of emergency vehicles.
Motorists are urged to take note of the following road closures and alternative routes. For instance, vehicles will not be allowed on S.V.S. Road between Siddhivinayak Mandir Junction and Kapad Bazar Junction. An alternative route is available via Siddhivinayak Junction to Gokhale Road. Similarly, entry restrictions will apply to Raja Bade Chowk towards Keluskar Road, with diversions in place to guide traffic effectively.
Furthermore, the police may implement additional traffic diversions based on real-time crowd movements and traffic conditions. For example, westbound traffic on Bal Govindas Marg may be redirected through Manorama Nagarkar Marg. Commuters are advised to remain vigilant and follow on-ground instructions to navigate the area efficiently.
Parking arrangements have been made for vehicles arriving from various suburbs. Buses from the western suburbs will be directed to park at locations such as Senapati Bapat Road and Kamgar Ground. Meanwhile, vehicles from South Mumbai are instructed to drop off passengers at Ravindra Natya Mandir before proceeding to their designated parking spots. These measures are designed to streamline the influx of attendees and minimize disruption during the event.
