Approximately ₹6 crore in complaints within just a month is not small thing ah .
The portal was launched by S Deepak,a 32-year-old tech enthusiast,as space where citizens can report corruption anonymously . And looking at response,it feels like many people were just waiting for some place to speak without fear .
Around 25,000 visitors have already come from cities, towns and rural areas . That itself says lot, because bribery is not just big-city issue . It follows people everywhere, from offices to certificates to basic government work.
Deepak is also supporter of Chief Minister Vijay and member of ruling TVK . But what pushed him personally was his own experience with bribery while dealing with government officials, including being asked for bribe for death certificate . That part honestly feels very bitter.
And maybe that is why Makkal Saatchi has been built in practical way, where complaints are sorted by government departments and specific locations . Not just random shouting online, but some structure to show where problem is happening.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- 400 complaints filed — Citizens have reported various bribe amounts totaling ₹6 crore .
- Investigations initiated — Officials have begun inquiries based on complaints submitted via the portal.
- Public engagement — The platform has resonated with citizens, leading to requests for similar initiatives in neighboring states .
Reports on portal mention bribes from ₹500 to several lakhs . And tbh, that range tells full story only . For some people ₹500 itself is pressure, while in bigger cases money goes into lakhs like it is normal routine.
What is more interesting is that bureaucrats have also started noticing detailed complaints . In one recent case,a report about bribery involving police official reportedly pushed senior IPS officer to begin internal investigation . That means portal is not just collecting anger,it is making some people in system respond .
But there is one uncomfortable side also . Deepak himself knows platform can be misused by people trying to settle personal scores through false complaints . So he is developing trust engine to check authenticity of reports before they go live on website.
And this is where whole idea becomes tricky . People badly need space to expose corruption, but same space must not become weapon for fake targeting . If Makkal Saatchi manages that balance, then maybe Tamil Nadu is seeing something bigger starting here… or maybe system will push back in ways nobody is talking about yet…
