Another big airport drug seizure has come out from New Delhi,and honestly,this one is not small thing ah . Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized hydroponic weed valued around ₹4.83 crore.
The passenger was an Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok on June 21, 2026,on Air India flight AI 2335 . Officials say he was stopped after crossing Green Channel,based on profiling techniques used by customs officials.
And this is where routine airport checking suddenly became serious . His baggage was sent for X-ray screening and suspicious images reportedly showed up,so customs officials went for detailed examination.
During inspection,they allegedly found hydroponic weed (ganja) weighing about 13.84 kg . This is not normal small packet case,it is high-potency cannabis grown using water-based nutrient solutions instead of soil,and that kind usually gets much higher price in illegal market .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Hydroponic weed weighing about 13.84 kg was seized.
- Estimated value of contraband is around ₹4.83 crore.
- Passenger has been arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 .
And tbh,the Bangkok to New Delhi route detail will now make investigators look very closely at source and intended destination of this consignment . Authorities are also checking whether arrested passenger is linked to larger narcotics trafficking network.
At same time,this case again shows how drug trafficking is becoming more sophisticated at major airports . Hydroponic cultivation itself is becoming more common,and that raises serious concern about accessibility and distribution .
Customs officials did act quickly here,but one question still stays in mind . Was this passenger carrying it alone,or was he just one small part of much bigger chain moving quietly through airports…
