So July 5,2026 turned into quite a rough day for multiple parts of Maharashtra . Between collapsing walls,flooded roads,fallen trees and protest marches,there was a lot happening at same time and honestly none of it is small.
Starting with Pune first . In Jambhulwadi area,a boundary wall inside one housing society completely collapsed due to intense rainfall . Wall fell suddenly according to witnesses,and numerous vehicles parked nearby took serious damage . People are now understandably worried about other structures in the same area,because if one wall came down like that,who is checking condition of other walls right now .
And that sudden collapse raises one uncomfortable question . How many housing societies across Pune have aging boundary walls that nobody has properly inspected in years… rainfall just exposed what was already weak.
Meanwhile in Thane,something very different was happening at same time . Over a thousand citizens came out to form human chain stretching between Manpada and Khewra Circle as part of 'SAVE SGNP' mission . This was peaceful demonstration focused entirely on protecting Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Protesters are demanding two specific things . First,transfer of 193 acres of forest land to Forest Department . Second,cancellation of reservations placed by Thane Municipal Corporation on a 100-acre plot which activists claim is directly threatening park's ecosystem . That is not small thing,100 acres of reserved land inside or near national park is significant loss if it goes wrong.
Three things happening across region worth noting:
- Human chain protest in Thane drew over thousand citizens demanding protection of SGNP and cancellation of TMC reservations on 100-acre plot.
- Heavy rainfall caused serious waterlogging on roads between Ambernath and Badlapur,with roads reportedly looking like rivers and local alerts being issued.
- Fallen tree on jogging track between Sanpada and Vashi in Navi Mumbai has been lying there for two days with Navi Mumbai Garden Department yet to clear it.
That Navi Mumbai tree situation is honestly frustrating to read about . No injuries happened only because no joggers were present at that moment . That is pure luck,not safety planning . Two days and nobody has cleared it yet.
Roads between Ambernath and Badlapur are apparently looking like rivers right now,with local authorities issuing flood alerts and asking residents to stay careful . That stretch is already known for waterlogging issues every monsoon season . Year after year same problems,same areas,same discussions .
And honestly,that pattern is what makes all of this feel heavier . Boundary walls collapsing,trees blocking pathways,roads flooding,forest land under threat… these are not random unconnected events . They are all pointing toward same underlying question about how prepared cities like Pune,Thane and Navi Mumbai really are for what monsoon brings every single year.
Whether anything actually changes after this particular July 5 or whether it all gets forgotten by next week…that part is still unclear
