Something quite serious is unfolding right now in Mumbai where police have filed multiple FIRs against protest organizers connected to activist Sonam Wangchuk's movement . And honestly,the speed at which authorities are responding is saying a lot about how tense situation has become.
At center of this is gathering that happened at Shivaji Park area where Uddhav Thackeray,chief of Shiv Sena (UBT),addressed crowd of supporters . Problem according to authorities is that this whole assembly was organized without required permissions . That triggered charges of unlawful assembly and public disorder against organizers .
But Shivaji Park was not the only location where things got complicated.
Mumbai Police have now recorded five FIRs total,one linked to Shivaji Park protest and four more connected to other unauthorized demonstrations that took place across city in past few days . One officer stated these actions are direct response to protests occurring without prior approval,raising alarms about potential for public unrest.
Separately,protest was also held at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar,which is cremation site of B.R. Ambedkar . This one was reportedly in solidarity with 'Sansad Chalo' march led by Cockroach Janta Party and Wangchuk . Police confirmed no permissions were granted for that assembly either and cases are being filed against those detained there .
Three things standing out clearly in this situation:

- Public assembly restrictions imposed with prohibitions on gatherings effective from July 23 to August 6.
- Thackeray's rally at Shivaji Park aimed at supporting Wangchuk's cause and protesting against government actions .
What Thackeray said at Shivaji Park gathering is also worth paying attention to . His speech emphasized need for heightened agitation against central government,particularly after Wangchuk was transferred from protest site at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital . That transfer seems to have added real urgency and anger to already charged atmosphere .
And honestly,this is where political picture becomes more complicated than just permission issue .
Mumbai Police have now enacted prohibitory orders restricting assembly of five or more individuals in public spaces until early August . Processions,loudspeakers and other activities considered potentially disruptive have also been banned . Authorities are clearly taking very firm position against unauthorized gatherings right now.
Growing discontent among multiple political factions in Maharashtra around government's handling of protests and civil rights is clearly visible in all of this . Support for Wangchuk's cause seems to have given opposition groups one unified rallying point,not small thing politically speaking.
At same time,question of where line sits between maintaining public order and restricting legitimate political expression… that is something this situation is putting right in front of everyone.
Whether these FIRs end up becoming serious legal consequences for organizers or just short-term pressure tactic,nobody really knows yet
