Mumbai rains have gone completely out of control right now and honestly,situation across entire region is looking quite serious . Schools shutting down,waterlogging everywhere,orange alerts being issued… this is not small disruption at all.
Indian Meteorological Department has warned of severe weather conditions and low-lying areas across Mumbai and its suburbs are already seeing waterlogging . Risk of accidents has also gone up significantly because of continuous downpour over past few days.
District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal announced school closure in Thane,directly citing orange alert for heavy rainfall . And this decision has now spread across multiple districts.
Here are key things that have happened so far:
- District administration declared holiday for all schools and colleges in Thane,Raigad and Palghar districts on July 6,2026.
- Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation also declared holiday for all primary and secondary schools following weather warnings .
- In Mumbai,all government and private schools and colleges will remain closed on July 6 as well.
In Thane,closure covers Anganwadis,kindergartens and both government and private primary and secondary schools . Raigad and Palghar have taken similar measures for same day . So pretty much entire region around Mumbai is affected right now .
And this is where thing gets a little uncomfortable for working parents especially.
Because while educational institutions are shut,government and private offices are expected to operate as usual . Administration is advising citizens to go out only if absolutely necessary . But many people still have to travel for work,which means roads and local trains will still be crowded during same weather conditions that made schools dangerous enough to close.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has stressed importance of student safety and urged parents to keep children at home . Authorities have also advised citizens generally to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during this period .
Flooding concerns are especially serious near rivers and coastal areas . Continuous rainfall over past few days has already pushed many areas to edge and if rain continues at same intensity,situation could become much worse before it gets better.
Honestly,closing schools feels like right call given how unpredictable Mumbai monsoons have been . But larger question remains about how city handles this kind of disruption every single year… infrastructure concerns,waterlogging in same areas repeatedly,people risking travel because offices stay open regardless.
Whether July 6 passes without any serious incident or things escalate further…that part is still completely uncertain right now
