The Maharashtra government has officially decided to scrap police cases filed against students who participated in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak protests.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a directive to the state's Home Department requesting an immediate start to the administrative process required to nullify these legal records. The focus is specifically on bailable offences that were registered during the demonstrations. The decision provides relief to hundreds of students who faced legal action during demonstrations held across the state.

The Purogami Vidyarthi Sanghatana, also known as the Progressive Students' Union, and several other student organisations welcomed the government's decision, calling it a major victory for the student movement, an official statement said.
