This ED case around Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions is now getting very serious, and honestly,it has moved far beyond normal political noise . Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter T . Veena are now under intense scrutiny, which is not small thing ah .
Reports say Enforcement Directorate (ED) is ramping up investigation after coordinated raids across Kerala and Bengaluru . Officials are reportedly looking at digital evidence, financial records and different legal options, including custodial interrogation and potential arrests.
And tbh, this timing is also making everything more explosive politically . Newly elected UDF government is preparing for its policy address in Assembly, and this case is already becoming main talking point before upcoming session .
Main allegation is that Veena Vijayan and her company,Exalogic Solutions, received ₹2.78 crore from CMRL without delivering any tangible IT or consultancy services . Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) investigators reportedly found that Veena received ₹5 lakh monthly, while her firm got another ₹3 lakh every month from CMRL.
So total comes to ₹8 lakh monthly,or ₹96 lakh annually . These payments allegedly happened between January 2017 and June 2020,soon after Vijayan assumed office as Chief Minister . That timeline only is why opposition is going to hit hard.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- ED is exploring legal options against Vijayan, including custodial interrogation and potential arrests.
- SFIO reportedly says Veena could not substantiate services Exalogic provided to CMRL.
- ED has frozen approximately ₹18.36 crore across 242 bank accounts linked to case.
Income Tax Department inspection in January 2019 had also highlighted payments amounting to ₹1.72 crore to Veena . But according to reports, funds still continued to move from CMRL to her accounts after that also, which makes whole arrangement look even more uncomfortable .
Another point investigators are looking at is that after CMRL ended contract with Exalogic,it hired ATN Technologies for IT services . So naturally, question comes up — if proper services were already being given earlier, then why this shift and what exactly was Exalogic doing?
ED officials are now trying to trace source and movement of money through all these accounts before taking stronger legal steps . There are indications that Veena Vijayan may seek anticipatory bail to avoid arrest, but ED is expected to oppose it,saying custodial interrogation is needed because money trail is complex.
And meanwhile,Kerala politics is heating up badly . Reports of violence against ED officials and CRPF personnel outside Vijayan’s residence during raids have pushed central agencies to consider more CRPF security for future operations . With three-day Assembly session starting June 1 and BJP's legislative party expected to take more aggressive stand, this case may not stay inside files only…
