On February 1, 2026, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the Union Budget as forward-looking and inclusive, asserting that it will significantly enhance the state’s logistics and industrial ecosystem. During a press interaction in Sonepur, he noted that the budget aims to create new opportunities for youth, farmers, entrepreneurs, and the middle class, while also recognizing the contributions of workers. Majhi highlighted the budget's focus on innovation, manufacturing, and employment, which he believes will strengthen agriculture, rural development, and infrastructure.
Majhi pointed to the proposed Rare Earth Corridor as a pivotal initiative designed to promote mineral processing and high-technology manufacturing within Odisha. This corridor aims to reduce dependency on imports of essential minerals while fostering local industries and supporting sectors such as electronics and renewable energy. He expressed confidence that this initiative will help position Odisha as a leader in the high-tech manufacturing sector.
- Creation of the Rare Earth Corridor — promotes local industries and reduces import dependency
- East Coast Development Corridor — enhances tourism and economic hubs in the region
- National Waterway-5 operation — improves transport connectivity for minerals and goods
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned the establishment of the East Coast Development Corridor, which is expected to benefit Odisha due to its strategic coastal location. This initiative includes the development of five tourism destinations across eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, the introduction of 4,000 e-buses for public transport aims to enhance connectivity and promote sustainable travel options.
Majhi also discussed the operationalization of National Waterway-5, which is set to connect mineral-rich regions like Talcher and Angul with key industrial ports such as Paradip. This initiative is designed to facilitate cost-effective and environmentally sustainable transport, thereby easing the logistical burden on road and rail networks. He highlighted that skill development centers along the waterway will provide training and employment opportunities for local youths.
