So Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang is now saying employees should get paid more because of this whole AI boom . And honestly,it's about time someone at that level said it out loud.
He was speaking at Computex in Taipei and his exact quote was,“I think people should be paid as much as possible.” This is coming at a time when tech companies are making unbelievable money from AI.
And this isn't just happening in a vacuum. Other big companies are feeling heat too. Samsung and TSMC are apparently getting lot of pressure to increase employee salaries because of all the AI-related profits they are making.
But this isn't just talk ah.
Samsung Electronics apparently made some agreement with its union which includes bonuses up to $400,000 for chip engineers . That is a huge amount. They're probably doing it to stop any strikes or disruptions . And TSMC's CEO C.C. Wei has also promised employees that their incentive payouts will go up this year.
Few things standing out in this whole situation:
- Nvidia is expecting to make up to $1 trillion in revenue from AI chips by 2027 only.
- Companies like Samsung and TSMC are already responding to pressure for better pay .
- Huang is also talking about job security, not just salary, amid all the AI fears.
And tbh, this is where things get interesting.
While everyone is talking about high salaries, people are also very worried about their jobs disappearing because of AI . Huang tried to address this also in his speech. He talked about Nvidia's strategy to create this whole integrated ecosystem of hardware, software, and AI infrastructure to make sure employees are still needed for company's growth .
Still,it feels like one thing to say this when your company is on top of world . Everyone is looking at Nvidia rn.
His comments will definitely put pressure on other tech companies to do better for their own people . The demand for skilled AI professionals is not going down anytime soon .
But will this really change the industry culture for long time,or is it just good PR while money is flowing in… who knows…
