This India-Myanmar visit is getting attention because President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar has reached New Delhi on May 30 , and honestly,it is not just routine photo-op type visit . Before Delhi,he had gone for spiritual visit to Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, which also gives this whole trip a cultural angle.
And this is his first official trip to India since he took office,so naturally both sides are treating it as big diplomatic moment . On arrival,he was welcomed by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, who spoke about partnership between India and Myanmar getting stronger through this visit.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also said this trip reflects deep-rooted civilizational, cultural, and people-to-people connections between India and Myanmar . That part is not small thing ah,because India-Myanmar ties are not just about meetings and documents, there is old history and border connection also.
MoS Singh also posted on social media, stating,"Honoured to welcome President H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on his arrival in Delhi . His visit underscores the enduring civilisational ties between our countries and offers a platform to enhance cooperation across diverse sectors."
Few things standing out clearly in this visit:
- Discussions with Prime Minister Modi on June 1 will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation.
- U Min Aung Hlaing is accompanied by cabinet ministers and business leaders for economic collaboration.
- President is set to take part in business and industry interactions during this five-day visit.
And tbh,the business side of this visit looks quite important . On June 2,President U Min Aung Hlaing will travel to Mumbai for more business engagements and site visits, mainly around trade and investment possibilities.
This visit also comes after MoS Singh's visit to Myanmar in April, where he attended President's swearing-in ceremony and conveyed PM Modi's felicitations . So there is clearly back-and-forth happening between both sides rn,not just one isolated trip.
India is looking at this relationship through 'Neighbourhood First','Act East',and 'MAHASAGAR' policies, especially when it comes to cooperation and developmental assistance to Myanmar . But at same time, how much practical outcome comes from these talks is something people will watch closely…
And maybe that is real question here — beyond warm welcomes, cultural words and business meetings, what actually changes on ground between India and Myanmar after this visit…
