So Mumbai schools are staying open on July 10 despite IMD issuing Yellow Alert for the city . And honestly,this decision is already making a lot of parents nervous right now.
Yellow Alert basically means city can expect thunderstorms,lightning and moderate rainfall throughout the day . Authorities have not issued any closure order for schools yet,so as of now everything is expected to run normally . But that does not mean situation is fully comfortable for people.
On July 10,Mumbai may see thunderstorms with gusty winds going up to 40 kmph . Rainfall intensity is expected to be slightly lower compared to previous days,but isolated areas can still get heavy showers . And for low-lying regions,waterlogging and flash flood concerns are very real.
What makes this more complicated is that alerts are not same everywhere across region:
- Yellow Alert for Mumbai — expected thunderstorms and moderate rain across city .
- Red Alert for nearby districts — Palghar,Raigad,Nashik,Pune and Satara facing extremely heavy rainfall.
- Orange Alert for suburbs — very heavy rainfall expected in Mumbai suburbs and Thane .
So while Mumbai city itself is on Yellow,areas surrounding it are dealing with much more serious warnings . Parents sending kids to school in Thane or suburb areas are probably looking at this very differently than someone inside city limits.
Private weather agency Skymet has offered some relief saying rainfall across parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai is expected to gradually reduce starting from July 9 . They also mentioned no new monsoon systems are anticipated to develop over Bay of Bengal in near future . Which,if true,means this heavy phase might slowly ease out .
But here is thing that sits uncomfortably . Weather predictions do not always play out exactly as expected,especially during monsoon season in Mumbai . One unexpected heavy spell can change ground situation very quickly.
IMD has urged residents to stay cautious,especially those living in flood-prone areas . Schools and parents are being asked to keep monitoring updates and stay connected for any last-minute changes in operations . Basically everyone is on standby mode right now.
And honestly,putting full responsibility on parents and schools to "stay informed" during active weather alerts feels like not enough from authorities . If surrounding districts are under Red Alert,how confident can anyone really be about safety of children commuting through city on same day…
Whether schools should have taken more cautious approach proactively,or whether Yellow Alert genuinely does not justify closure — that debate is probably going to continue all morning among Mumbai parents checking their phones
