Continuous heavy rainfall across city and Thane region is causing real waterlogging problems in many localities.
According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation,in last 24 hours alone parts of city recorded average rainfall of 117.06 mm . And the highest single recording came from Mandavi Fire Station which received 150.2 mm of rain in that same period . That is not small number for one location.
And this level of water coming down so fast… drainage systems were always going to struggle .
Mumbai's Mayor did conduct urgent inspection of waterlogged areas in Ghatkopar East to personally assess ground situation . During visit,Mayor emphasized importance of timely drainage and water management so that residential areas don't face worse flooding consequences.
Few key things from this whole situation:
- BMC reported city's seven lakes rose to 8.93% storage capacity,which is actually positive sign for water supply.
- Local residents have raised serious concerns about inadequate drainage systems,especially in low-lying areas where waterlogging gets worse quickly.
- Meteorological departments are predicting continued rainfall in coming days,raising further concerns about flooding.
Thane Municipal Corporation also reported substantial rainfall in their jurisdiction during same period . Which is why many people feel coordinated effort between BMC and TMC is absolutely necessary right now,not just individual responses .
Mayor urged residents to stay cautious and report any waterlogging or flooding instances to local authorities directly . BMC is apparently mobilizing additional resources to handle drainage issues and strengthen infrastructure under this monsoon pressure.
And honestly,this is where things get uncomfortable every single year . Mumbai's drainage situation keeps becoming discussion point during monsoon and then slowly fades away once rains stop . Same cycle repeating.
With more rain predicted ahead,city is bracing for what comes next . Residents in low-lying areas especially are watching situation with real concern because for them waterlogging is not just inconvenience,it directly disrupts daily life,damages property and creates safety risks .
