This year’s 12th International Day of Yoga in Visakhapatnam district looked quite big honestly, not just one symbolic event and done . On June 21, 2026,celebrations happened across many places, and enthusiasm seemed pretty strong despite weather trouble.
District-level Yogandhra program was first planned at R.K . Beach, but because of inclement weather,it was shifted to Sagarika Convention Hall . And actually, this was sensible move because program could continue without disruption instead of getting spoiled by rain .
And Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha also addressed people there, where she spoke about government’s push for healthier Andhra Pradesh . Her line stood out clearly: "Yoga is India’s invaluable gift to the world, and it should be part of our lives." Simple statement, but it also shows how yoga is being pushed as daily habit, not just once-a-year event.
She also mentioned fortnight-long Yogandhra campaign happening across state, with focus on wellness and healthy living . Government departments, educational institutions, public sector undertakings and defense establishments all joined in,so reach was not small ah .
Few things standing out from celebrations:
- Participants joined mass yoga demonstrations and performed different asanas.
- Yoga teachers, competition winners and instructors were felicitated for their contribution.
- Educational institutions, correctional institutions and other organisations also took part widely.
Notable people at event included Government Whip P . Ganababu ,Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao , and District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore ,among others . And at same time,Indian Coast Guard also held yoga session for around 400 personnel and their families, where Additional Director General Donny Michael spoke about yoga’s role in fitness and stress reduction.
At Hindustan Shipyard Limited, employees followed theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” . Capt. Ganti Venkateswarlu encouraged staff to build culture of yoga practice, and tbh, this ageing angle is actually important because health problems don’t suddenly start one day only.
But one of most interesting parts was Central Prison in Visakhapatnam holding yoga and meditation sessions for approximately 1,200 inmates and 80 staff members . Superintendent M. Mahesh Babu said yoga helps in rehabilitation, discipline and positive behavioral changes among inmates, which is something people outside may not think about much.
Educational institutions also joined, with social welfare hostels organising heartfulness meditation and yoga sessions for students, mainly around mental health and concentration . Overall,Visakhapatnam district showed big institutional push this time, but real question is whether this same energy will continue after Yoga Day photos and programs are over…
