Police raid at residence of absconding Trinamool Congress leader Laban Sheikh has thrown out cash, gold and lot of uncomfortable questions together.
During raid in Birbhum district,West Bengal, police reportedly found ₹49.75 lakh in cash and 503 grams of gold ornaments from Laban Sheikh’s residence . This is not small amount ah,and when such recovery happens from someone already absconding, public suspicion naturally goes up .
What makes this more serious is link being drawn with illegal sand mining in region . Authorities are now searching harder for Laban Sheikh, while his partner Shamim Sheikh has already been taken into custody . Another associate,Sohail Sheikh, still remains at large.
And it is not just mining angle only . This group has also been implicated in road construction contracts, which makes whole operation look much bigger than one local raid or one hidden cash stash.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Police found ₹49.75 lakh at Laban Sheikh’s residence.
- 503 grams of gold ornaments were also confiscated during raid.
- All police stations in Birbhum are on alert to locate absconding suspects .
And tbh, this is where political angle starts becoming more uncomfortable . Investigation is reportedly showing deeper connection to former Birbhum district president of Trinamool Congress,Anubrata Mondal, indicating wider network of corruption.
At same time, this is not only one isolated embarrassment for party . In North 24 Parganas district, police arrested TMC councilor Gopal Das for extorting money from residents under pretense of helping them get housing under state’s Banglar Bari scheme .
Then another TMC councillor,Barun Sarkar, was apprehended for stealing fish from local fishery . It sounds almost bizarre, but these small-looking cases also add to bigger public anger because people start feeling elected representatives are misusing power at every level.
Public outrage and protests have already started, with residents demanding accountability and transparency from their elected representatives . And honestly, when cash, gold, mining contracts, housing scheme extortion and even fish theft all come in same larger story,it leaves people wondering how deep this rot actually goes…
