Exam was already under huge pressure after earlier question paper leak, and now proxy exam network getting exposed just after re-test makes whole thing look even more messy.
According to reports,24 individuals have been arrested, including medical students from Patna Medical College and Hospital and AIIMS Raebareli . Arrests happened just one day after re-test on June 21, 2026,which was supposed to protect fairness of exam process after serious allegations of misconduct.
And this is not small cheating case also . Investigators reportedly found proxy examination network where some candidates were allegedly writing medical entrance test on behalf of others for big money.
Payments were reportedly ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹40 lakh for securing admissions fraudulently . Just imagine that amount being used to buy seat in medical system, while lakhs of students study for years with stress and sacrifice .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Coordinated raids were conducted at centres including Government High School Hasanpur and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Lakhisarai.
- Fourteen staff members from biometric verification agency were also arrested .
- Authorities are analyzing seized digital materials to trace more beneficiaries and facilitators in fraud network.
But most uncomfortable part is biometric angle . If agency staff responsible for identity checks are also getting detained, then question becomes very serious: how many layers of checking actually failed here?
Superintendent of Police,Prerna Kumar, said investigation is looking into full extent of this fraudulent network, including whether similar activities happened at other examination centres . And honestly, that possibility itself is scary because NEET-UG 2026 re-exam was massive .
National Testing Agency (NTA) had earlier cancelled original exam on May 3 due to question paper leak . After that,re-exam was conducted with over 22 lakh candidates across 5,440 centres nationwide and in 14 international locations, with biometric verification and enhanced surveillance in place.
And still, this kind of proxy arrangement allegedly happened . That means problem may not be only about one centre or few accused people, but about how fraud networks keep finding weak points in system .
For students who gave exam honestly, this must feel extremely unfair rn . They follow rules, stand in lines,go through checks, carry pressure of family expectations, and then hear that someone somewhere may have tried to buy way through ₹30 lakh to ₹40 lakh.
Now authorities will continue checking digital evidence and links, but bigger worry is still hanging there… if such fraud got exposed in Lakhisarai, how many other places are quietly waiting to be uncovered?
