This Kerala drug bust honestly feels quite serious because over 24 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances getting seized is not small thing ah . Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out this operation across Kerala, and scale itself shows how deep this issue may have gone .
Operation was called Operation Chakravyuh and it covered major places like Kochi,Malappuram, and Thiruvananthapuram . DRI apprehended five individuals, including key operatives allegedly connected with organized drug trafficking networks .
And the seized substances were not some random small packets also . Reports say methaqualone, methamphetamine, and hashish oil were recovered, with total value of narcotics estimated at approximately ₹70.76 crore . That number alone tells why agencies are treating this seriously.
What makes it more worrying is how these drugs were allegedly being moved . DRI noted that contraband was being transported through passenger baggage, courier services, and export cargo . Means traffickers were not depending on one route only, but using different channels to avoid detection.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- DRI seized over 24 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances throughout Kerala .
- Five individuals were apprehended, including key operatives allegedly linked to organized drug trafficking networks.
- Drugs were allegedly moved through passenger baggage, courier services, and export cargo .
At same time,Kerala government is also talking tough on narcotics and substance abuse . statewide anti-drug mission will begin in June, targeting youth and children, and government has also announced sweeping reform of Excise Department.
Under this plan,Excise Department is supposed to become technology-enabled agency focused on dismantling organized drug networks . Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar,in recent policy address, emphasized use of digital tools and intelligence-driven strategies to improve enforcement capabilities .
And tbh, this part is important because children and youth are clearly being seen as most vulnerable here . Government’s approach includes strong enforcement against traffickers, sustained awareness campaigns to reduce demand, and public health-focused rehabilitation program for those affected by addiction .
There is also talk of zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and modernizing Excise Department to better fight drug trafficking . But when drugs worth ₹70.76 crore are being caught through multiple channels,it also shows how much coordination central and state agencies will need .
Because one big seizure may look like success, but it also quietly asks bigger question… how much has already passed through before this?
