Just saw this news about India delivering more humanitarian aid to Ukraine,and it feels like a really solid gesture in these difficult times.
The aid was officially handed over to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on June 2 . It was given by Dinesh Bhardwaj,who is the Charge D'affaires at the Indian Embassy there. This time,the focus was on essential medicines for treating viral Hepatitis C (HCV).
And this isn't some one-off thing ah. India has been sending help for a while now.
This is part of a bigger effort,and reports say this was actually the 16th consignment of aid sent earlier in 2024 only . That one apparently included diagnostic medical equipment for hospitals in Sumy Region,which is very specific and needed help.
Few things standing out in this ongoing support:
- BHISHM Cubes for emergency care are being sent,which provide critical medical supplies.
- Past aid consignments have included several medical shipments to assist Ukraine's health sector.
- Training for Ukrainian staff is also part of it,with Indian experts on ground to teach them how to use equipment.
But these BHISHM Cubes are something else. Back in August 2024,Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented four of these BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri) Cubes to Ukraine.
They are designed for emergency medical response and are basically like mini hospitals . Each Cube can handle up to 15 basic surgeries daily and help with around 200 different medical cases. That's a huge capacity for a mobile unit.
And tbh,this is the kind of practical help that really matters on ground. Not just statements,but actual equipment that saves lives.
The ongoing effort is definitely about more than just aid . It's a way of showing support and strengthening the relationship between India and Ukraine during this whole crisis. It shows India is trying to act like a responsible global player.
