The ongoing crisis in Balochistan has deepened, with reports from a prominent human rights organization indicating that another five civilians have been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces. The Baloch National Movement's Human Rights Department revealed this alarming trend on May 26, detailing incidents involving young individuals targeted during military raids. Among the victims is Haji Muhammad Karim, a 19-year-old who was abducted from his home in Quetta during a late-night operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on May 22.
In a separate violation, another young man named Nawab was forcibly taken on May 21 from Chitkan Bazaar in Panjgur district by personnel from Pakistan's Frontier Corps and local death squads. The rights body also expressed outrage over the abduction of Sudais Baloch, a 20-year-old student who was taken during a raid on May 20. Such incidents are part of a troubling pattern of enforced disappearances that disproportionately affect the youth in Balochistan, raising significant concerns about human rights violations in the region.
- Rise in enforced disappearances — The Baloch National Movement highlights an alarming increase in civilian abductions.
- Extrajudicial killings reported — The body of a driver, Muhsin, was discovered after being missing for 66 days.
- Targeting of students — Young individuals, including students, are increasingly at risk of abduction.
Adding to the distressing situation, the organization reported the recovery of the body of Muhsin, a 21-year-old driver, found on May 19 in Panjgur, nearly 66 days after he was forcibly disappeared on March 16. His tragic fate underscores the hazards faced by civilians in the area. Additionally, the targeted killing of Mehran Baloch, a 27-year-old, on May 21 in Kech district, further illustrates the escalating violence against the Baloch people.
As Balochistan continues to grapple with these human rights violations, the Baloch National Movement has called on Pakistani authorities to disclose the whereabouts of those missing and take immediate action to halt these enforced disappearances. The situation remains dire, with families suffering the loss of loved ones and the community facing increasing violence and repression from state forces.
