Maharashtra is once again dealing with heavy rainfall situation and this time it is not just one or two areas — multiple districts are getting hit badly right now . Mumbai,Thane,Raigad,Palghar… whole region seems to be under serious weather stress .
IMD issued orange alert specifically for Thane district on July 6,2026 anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall . Orange alert is not small thing — it basically signals that authorities need to be prepared for flooding in low-lying areas,rivers and coastal zones.
And honestly,the response from district administration was fast this time.
District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal announced that all schools and colleges in Thane district would remain closed on July 6 . This directive covers all Anganwadi,government-run primary and secondary schools . Authorities were told to implement this order immediately without delay .
Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation also moved quickly on this . KDMC closed all primary and secondary schools in their region after IMD warnings came in . School administrations were instructed to inform parents and guardians about closures so nobody was left confused.
Three things worth noting clearly in this whole situation:
- All educational institutions in Thane district closed on July 6 due to IMD orange alert and weather warnings.
- Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation announced school closures for safety of students and teachers in KDMC area.
- Schools in Raigad and Palghar districts were also shut after heavy rainfall warnings were issued for those regions.
Raigad district authorities took similar call,closing all schools and colleges due to ongoing downpour and severe weather warnings from IMD . Administration there has urged residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions given potential for flooding and other weather related incidents.
Mumbai situation is also serious . IMD forecasted heavy rains and strong winds for July 6 and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced closures for all government and private schools in city . However,regular operations for government and private offices are expected to continue as normal which is interesting decision honestly.
BMC has advised residents to limit outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary . Thane administration similarly asked people to refrain from unnecessary travel and stay indoors during heavy rains.
What is slightly uncomfortable to think about is that offices continue while schools close . Means parents still need to travel in same dangerous conditions,just without children accompanying them . Whether that logic fully holds up during orange alert conditions…that question is still sitting there unanswered for many people right now
