Gulveer Singh is doing that thing again where you look at Indian athletics result and feel, wait, this is actually getting serious now . At Music City Track Carnival, held at Lee University Cleveland campus,he has put up another performance which is not small thing ah .
Just one day after winning 1-mile race,he came back and clocked 3:37.87 in 1500m,finishing second overall . For any runner this is strong, but for Indian distance running, this feels even bigger because he became only the second Indian athlete to break 3:38 barrier on two occasions, after national record holder Jinson Johnson .
And honestly, that back-to-back part matters a lot . One good race can happen, but doing it again next day shows fitness, confidence and race sharpness all sitting in right place .
During 24th Annual Music City Track Carnival, his previous day's run was also historic . Gulveer became first Indian to finish Men's 1 Mile Pro event under four minutes, with time of 3:55.63 seconds . His closest competitors,Christopher Knight and Tristan Trevino, finished in 3:59.72 and 4:00.27 respectively.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- First Indian under four minutes — Gulveer made history by becoming first Indian to clock sub-four-minute mile.
- Multiple national records — He holds records in 5,000m,10,000m,and 3,000m events.
- Preparation for major games — Gulveer is focusing on Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Japan Asian Games.
What makes this more interesting is that Gulveer is not just popping up in one event . As long-distance runner based in USA,he has been building serious profile across distances, not just one lucky race here and there.
He holds national record in men's 5,000m indoor category with time of 12:59.77,achieved last year in USA . Then there is men's 10,000m national record too, where he clocked 27:00.22 at TEN 2025 meet . And in men's 3,000m,he set record at Gyulai Istvan Memorial with 7:34.49,going past his own previous record .
But tbh,one part still feels slightly frustrating . His men's half marathon time of 59:42 is not recognized by World Athletics because of course's nature . Officially, that record is held by Avinash Sable, who ran 2020 Delhi Half Marathon in 1:00:30 .
And this is why Gulveer's run feels important beyond medal talk . Indian distance running has waited long time for athletes who can regularly hit global-level timings, not just participate . Now with Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Japan Asian Games ahead, question is how far he can stretch this momentum…
