Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops recently hosted event titled “Cultivation Technologies for Horticultural Crops Adapted to Climate Change,” and it was inaugurated by Minister T.K. Prabhu on June 21 . Main focus was simple but serious — helping local farmers adjust their horticulture practices as climate change keeps disturbing normal farming patterns.
And honestly,this kind of discussion is needed at ground level only . Because farmers are not dealing with climate change as some theory . They are seeing delayed rain,odd heat,crop stress and soil issues in real life.
During keynote address,Minister T.K. Prabhu spoke about government support for grassroots agricultural initiatives . He also distributed welfare assistance totaling ₹19.78 lakh to 39 beneficiaries under National Horticulture Mission. For many small farmers,this financial help can make actual difference in trying better methods or managing crop risk.

One good part was peer-to-peer learning,where experienced farmers shared their own insights with others . That kind of exchange sometimes works better than long speeches,because farmer listens differently when another farmer explains what worked in field .
There was also curated exhibition showing modern agricultural tools and climate-adaptive crop varieties . This gave farmers chance to see actual options instead of just hearing about them from stage.
And now real test is what happens after seminar . Will these ideas reach more villages,will farmers get enough support to try them,or will this remain one more event photo in files…
