Former West Bengal Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose has gone to Calcutta High Court after his arrest by Enforcement Directorate (ED),and matter is connected to multi-crore recruitment scam.
On May 28,2026 ,Sujit Bose filed petition challenging his arrest by ED,which happened earlier this month . His petition has been admitted by single-judge vacation bench, and first hearing is set for May 29,2026 .
Bose is three-time legislator from Bidhannagar Assembly constituency . ED arrested him on May 11 after long interrogation which reportedly went on for over 10 hours . Not small thing ah,especially when case is already carrying political heat .
And this arrest did not happen suddenly only . Reports say he had earlier avoided ED summons, citing busy campaign schedule during recent Assembly elections . After election results came on May 4,he appeared before ED,and then he was taken into custody.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- ED alleges Bose recommended 150 ineligible candidates for recruitment.
- He is currently in ED custody for further investigation .
- ED searched Bose’s properties before his arrest.
According to investigators,ED claims Bose received substantial sums of money for endorsing ineligible candidates within South Dum Dum Municipality . Basically allegation is that recruitment was pushed for people who were not eligible, and money angle is also being examined .
But matter gets more uncomfortable from here . ED had also conducted raids at his residences and offices, and agency says potentially incriminating evidence was found, including financial transactions that raised suspicion.
Reports also mention that restaurant owned by Bose generated significant revenue during COVID-19 lockdown . That part is now adding more pressure because investigators are looking at his financial dealings, including alleged fictitious transactions traced back to his accounts.
And tbh, this is where politics and investigation start mixing in public mind . Supporters may see it as targeting, opponents may call it corruption case, but court will now look at arrest challenge first .
For now,May 29,2026 hearing becomes important because it may decide what happens next legally for Bose . But bigger question is still hanging there… how deep does this recruitment scam actually go?
