Rules are changing fast, digital systems are increasing, and many professionals still have to catch up .
On May 30,2026,Ramesh Krishnamurthi, the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO),spoke about need for skilled professionals in India’s changing labour governance setup . He was speaking during launch of inaugural batch of Executive Development Programme on “Labour Laws and Social Security Compliance (EPFO at Core)” .
This programme was hosted by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Academy of Social Security (PDUNASS) and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) . And tbh,the timing makes sense because Labour Codes, especially Code on Social Security, have changed how compliance is being looked at .
Krishnamurthi basically said that legal knowledge alone is not enough now . Professionals also need practical implementation skills, because knowing law on paper and handling it in real workplaces are two different things only.
Few things standing out from this launch:
- Recent implementation of Labour Codes, especially Code on Social Security, has increased demand for trained compliance professionals.
- EPFO digital initiatives like Aadhaar-enabled services and Universal Account Number (UAN) integration are changing compliance frameworks.
- Programme aims to bring government, academia, and industry together for emerging compliance challenges.
And this is where matter becomes more serious . Compliance is no longer just form-filling or deadline-following . Krishnamurthi stressed that it is now linked with responsible governance and ethical employment practices, which honestly is not small thing ah.
He also said organizations investing in strong compliance frameworks can support worker welfare and also improve trust, transparency, and productivity . That part matters because many times workers suffer not because laws are absent, but because implementation is weak.
Kumar Rohit,Director of PDUNASS,called this launch a major milestone for National Academy of Social Security and connected it to joint work with GNLU . Prof (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar,Director of GNLU,also praised programme as model for academia-industry collaboration, especially for creating professionals who can mix legal knowledge with practical implementation skills.
But real question is whether such programmes will actually create enough people who understand both law and ground realities . Because post-Labour Codes era is already here, and compliance pressure is not waiting for anyone…
