We mostly hear about delays, arguments, traffic challans and public complaints, but then some incidents come out where officers are literally jumping into danger without even proper gear .
One such incident happened last August when head constable Arvind Kasana got urgent call about elderly man trapped in swamp near Hindon canal . He went there with his colleague Constable Manish, and both somehow managed to pull Rajesh Singh out safely using makeshift pole and rope .
And this is not normal duty ah . Beat officer job already means long hours, patrolling neighborhoods, handling disputes, theft cases, local fights and then paperwork also . Still, when emergency comes, they cannot say “this is not my work” and walk away .
Gulshan Nagpal, the Station House Officer at Nabi Karim police station, has pointed out how each case usually brings paperwork, court appearances and extra pressure . And when officers are already doing 12-hour shifts without adequate protective gear, these rescue efforts feel even heavier.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Officers often handle fatalities and help families with last rites for unidentified victims .
- Constables have rescued people from fires, many times without protective equipment .
- Despite all this, public misconceptions about police role still continue .
For Sub-Inspector Gajraj Singh and Assistant Sub-Inspector Narendra Rana, duty often means facing death almost daily . They have handled many cases of unidentified individuals and helped families either reunite or perform last rites. One case even involved tracing man missing for nearly 40 years, which must have been emotional beyond words for family .
And then there are fire incidents also . This year, officers reportedly tackled emergencies including dramatic rescue from burning hotel in Paharganj, where guests were evacuated without any protective gear . Head Constable Anil Mahala also showed serious courage when he put out fire caused by LPG cylinder without proper tools.
Tbh,that part is scary . Because bravery is one thing, but sending people into risky situations without equipment is another problem only. Public claps after rescue, but system still needs to ask why basic protection is missing.
HC Mahala said,“We strive to demonstrate our dedication,” and that line feels simple but loaded . Police want trust from community, but community also wants accountability, better behaviour and faster response . Somewhere between both sides, this daily pressure keeps building…
And maybe that is real uncomfortable part here, how many such moments happen quietly without anyone noticing at all…
