Delhi getting ready for Kanwar Yatra again, and this time government has clearly decided to organize things more tightly . Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reconstituted Kanwar Committee, and honestly, this kind of planning was expected because crowd during this yatra is not small ah .
Kapil Mishra,Delhi Minister for Culture and Law,has been made Chairperson of this committee . His job now is to look after arrangements so Shiva devotees coming into Delhi do not face unnecessary mess on road, camps, water, power or basic facilities.
And this is not just some small religious procession . Kanwar Yatra brings lakhs of devotees with huge public movement, and in Delhi, even one weak arrangement can create traffic issue, health issue or crowd problem very fast.
One thing that stands out is camp numbers . Last year, approved Kanwar camps reportedly went up from 170 to record 374 . Government says this happened because approval process was simplified for organizing committees.
Few main points here:
- Financial support now ranges from ₹50,000 to ₹11 lakh through Direct Benefit Transfer.
- Each registered camp can get up to 1,200 units of free electricity.
- Committee will focus on route management, medical facilities, and uninterrupted power and water supply.
And tbh, this direct funding part is interesting . Earlier tender-based system has been discontinued, and government is saying this new method is more transparent and easier for committees to access money . For camp organizers, less running around for funds means they can focus more on actual arrangements.
There are also concessions on security deposits for temporary electricity connections, which matters because many of these camps are seasonal and run during yatra period only . If basic power and water are handled properly, half of ground-level headache reduces .
Under Kapil Mishra, the committee will hold review meetings with Delhi Police,Public Works Department and other stakeholders . That coordination will decide how smooth things actually remain once devotees start entering city in large numbers.
Rekha Gupta has also said every Kanwariya entering Delhi should be treated with respect and given best facilities . Nice statement, but real test will be on roads, camps and crowded stretches when yatra begins…
Because announcements are one thing, execution during peak Kanwar movement is another story altogether…
