Three passengers got caught smuggling drugs at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and honestly,the way these people tried to hide everything is something else entirely.
According to customs officials,total of 6.37 kg of suspected hydroponic weed was recovered across three separate operations happening on July 13 and July 14 . And for those unfamiliar,hydroponic weed is high-potency cannabis grown in nutrient-rich water instead of soil,which makes it premium contraband and extremely expensive on black market.
First case is where things get really interesting. One Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok got flagged through Advance Passenger Information System,commonly called APIS profiling . Initial baggage check found nothing at all . But customs officers didn't stop there and actually searched the aircraft itself,where they discovered 3.47 kg of substance hidden inside four sealed packets stashed inside rear lavatories of the plane . Person had apparently cleared baggage area and was attempting Green Channel exit before all this came out.
Second interception involved traveler flying in from Phuket . Again,officers profiled the suspect and searched aircraft after arrival,eventually finding 1.5 kg of weed hidden beneath seats in Row 12 . Not inside bags,not in clothing,literally under the seats.
And third incident happened on Sunday where passenger from Bangkok was caught with 1.4 kg vacuum-sealed inside their luggage during routine X-ray screening . That one was comparatively straightforward.
Few key details standing out from these three cases:
- Hydroponic weed seized totaled 6.37 kg recovered across three distinct smuggling attempts.
- Suspects arrived from Bangkok and Phuket on separate international flights.
- All three individuals arrested under Section 43(b) of NDPS Act.
Officials stated,"The suspects admitted to their roles in concealing the contraband within the aircraft and their baggage." Which means at least confessions part moved quickly.
What is genuinely unsettling here is aircraft hiding method . Two out of three people didn't even carry drugs in their baggage,they stashed everything inside plane itself,lavatories,under seats… and then simply walked toward exit hoping nobody would look further . That takes planning,not panic.
Customs department has said they are continuing to monitor international arrivals from high-risk routes to stop flow of illegal narcotics into national capital . Bangkok and Phuket routes clearly showing up as active corridors for this kind of smuggling right now .
And bigger question nobody is fully answering yet is how many times this method actually worked before these three got caught…
