India's Defence Acquisition Council just gave approval for procurement proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore on July 3,2026 . And honestly,that is not small number at all — this covers Army,Navy and Air Force together in one single push.
The approvals came under Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's leadership and what stands out is just how wide scope is . Air defense,anti-tank systems,electronic warfare,naval systems… basically every major operational gap they are trying to address at same time .
Let's go through what actually got approved here because list is genuinely interesting.
Starting with Army side — AKASH TARANG is one Anti-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Electronic Warfare System that will help deal with hostile drone threats . Drones have become serious tactical problem in modern conflicts and Indian Army clearly wants solution ready before situation demands it urgently.
Then there is Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile or MPATGM which is designed to neutralize enemy armored vehicles and mechanized threats . Portable option means infantry units get stronger anti-tank capability without depending on heavy equipment always.
Few more key approvals worth knowing:
- Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile system MRSAM and Very Short Range Air Defence System V-SHORADS both approved for airspace security at different ranges.
- Active Protection System for Tanks and Jet-Based Kamikaze Drone System added for better survivability and electronic warfare capability during combat.
- Navy gets Multi Influence Ground Mine MIGM and Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System NSUAS equipped with advanced sensors for maritime operations.
For Navy there is also Land Based Testing Facility planned for testing motors and electric propulsion systems . Honestly that one sounds less dramatic but it matters for long term development of naval assets.
And then there is Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite FW-HAPS which will give Indian Air Force persistent intelligence,surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities . It is also meant to support telecommunications and remote sensing which makes it useful beyond just defense operations.
What is interesting about this entire approval round is how many of these systems are focused on threats that were not even priority decade ago . Drones,electronic warfare,anti-drone tech… these were fringe topics and now they are sitting right at center of ₹52,000 crore spending plan.
India has been pushing hard to modernize armed forces for some time now and approvals like this keep coming at regular pace . But real question is always about timelines,actual delivery and whether these systems get integrated properly into existing structures before they are actually needed…
That part nobody really talks about openly.
